Carbon Neutrality

Paving the Path to a More Sustainable Future at CES

Green Office Label and Green Plant Label Contribute to Carbon Neutrality at the Locations

Carbon Neutrality for more Sustainability

Saving and producing energy in an environmentally friendly way is an important contribution to a more sustainable future. Continental’s aspirational objective of a carbon-neutral production and green company buildings until 2050 can only be achieved when the company locations provide a sustainability management with the help of constructive measures and recent technologies as well as creative ideas and solutions.

Continental’s Internal Certification System

To ensure the achievement of the target of Carbon Neutrality in Scope 1 and 2 and reduction of Scope 3, Continental developed an internal certification system which operationalizes the sustainability targets of the company. A scoring model was generated with mandatory and further criteria and the opportunity to certify outstanding environmental and energy performance by achieving one of three status levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Sustainability is approached in a holistic way. That is why an extensive evaluation of criteria of energy efficiency, emissions control, waste and recycling management and water consumption as well as innovations in the area of research and development (R&D) is conducted. Moreover, the commitment of the employees is also included in the criteria of the label. Various trainings and activities contribute to a broader awareness and integration of sustainability in business structures.

The Approach of CES

The aim of CES is to achieve a carbon-neutral and sustainable status for all locations. That is why various locations conduct self-assessments to ensure the compliance of the evaluation criteria of the Green Office Label and Green Plant Label. As a next step, they will apply for an audit to achieve the certification. Regular exchange between the locations provides a shared experience and offers other locations to gain insight on the self-assessment and certification process.

Porto Location Achieves Silver Status in Green Office Label Certification

In our commitment to sustainability and our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint, our location in Portugal recently has been awarded Silver status in the Green Office Label Certification. The sustainability team in Porto initiated online campaigns, employee engagement activities and more to raise awareness about sustainability issues and share best practices.

The certification recognizes the location’s achievements in tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) related to energy consumption, water usage, and waste management, as well as implementing regular sustainability communication and employee engagement activities and energy efficiency projects.
