Product Solutions 3D Manufacturing
Revolutionising production with innovative 3D printing technology.
Pioneering in 3D printing
Continental’s advanced 3D printing competence centre in Karben helps to make breakthroughs in eco-friendly manufacturing. This centre revolutionises production for all divisions and external partners, aligning with Continental’s commitment to green technology.
Led by Continental Engineering Services, the centre leverages digital design data to construct parts layer by layer, departing from traditional, less sustainable methods. Set within an 8,000 m² facility, with 600 m² dedicated to 3D printing, high-precision, efficient production of small batches is made possible while minimising environmental impact.
Karben is a hub for innovative technologies, such as additive manufacturing, CNC machines, injection moulding, laser welding and electronics assembly. This multifaceted approach ensures the selection of the most eco-conscious technology for every task, reducing waste and energy consumption.

3D printing not only accelerates production but also upholds Continental’s dedication to sustainability. It delivers intricate three-dimensional objects, from prototypes to spare parts, maintaining the highest quality while lowering the carbon footprint. The centre oversees the entire production process, resulting in cost savings and reduced time-to-market.
Continental’s Karben centre embraces modern 3D printing technologies, including Selective Laser Melting (SLM) for precise metal parts. It also employs eco-friendly plastic-based methods such as Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Stereolithography (SLA), Digital Light Printing (DLP), and Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), reflecting Continental’s commitment to a greener, more sustainable future.
